Buttercream and I have always been friends. When I was a teen I used to work at a Dairy Queen and sweet little old lady taught me how to decorate the ice cream cakes. Shell boarders and roses – I was in love.

Using buttercream has always been pretty simple and easy to control. Don’t get wrong, it can be temperamental, but that’s usually my fault. Did I know it needed more sugar? Yes. Did I add it? No…

Royal icing is just another breed. Is it bad? Absolute not. It’s just something I’m not used.

Kind of like dogs. I know how malamutes act. I’m familiar with Shitzus. I do not, however, know how to handle anything with a ton of energy. Not bad, but different.

So yesterday we made our wonderful football cut-out chocolate chip cookies and they were wonderful. Today we tried, and barely passed our royal icing test.

Here is where I colored my boarder icing and fill icing in different bowls. Hey, just so you know – don’t do that. Color your icing, separate, then thin. I’m a noob.

Talk about struggling to outline a shape…sheesh.

Oh my science – those are not straight lines.

Composing the icing was not terribly difficult. Here is the link I used: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/202591683228679676/feedback/?invite_code=82986d387c164c24a53d3d6eb0134412&sender_id=476115129264511034

Was it a success? For a party where we’re going to create fake football team to manages…probably. Just another thing to practice and get better at in all of my free time.
