In the words of my bestie “I miss being that fat”. I sent her a photo of what I thought was of us in our mid 30’s. It was only from 5 years ago. I almost threw up.
I remember it well. We were hitting our gym spot multiple days a week. At 7AM on Saturdays – who does that?
I remember being so aggravated that night when I got dressed to go to dinner. My clothes didn’t feel right and I just felt huge. Oh, to go back.
So what happened? Well, a lot. Let’s break it down.
They stole part of my thyroid. Not the whole thing, just the part growing ‘almost’ cancer. They left the other bit that now looks like Swiss cheese.
I started eating gluten again. Being without the thyroid is manageable, but not when you are still consuming bread. The two do not mix well.
Covid. Mostly working from home. It’s been pretty rough going from 12,000 steps a day walking to meetings to maybe a 5,000. That’s a pretty big dip.
Now we have also had some trauma in our life lately, but I’m not going to sit here and blame my 50 extra (you read that right – 50) pounds on something that happened after the fact.
The trauma is just adding to an already existing problem. We can get into the therapy of why I can put the Coke and M&Ms down another time. Right now I just need you to know that it’s time for some changes.
You could be there too, and you’re not alone. We can get back there. It’s just going to take some work and some really good habits.
Don’t completely deprived yourself. You still need treats sometimes – just not an entire family size bag of M&Ms every day washed down by five 20oz cokes. My poor triglycerides.
Here’s what I’m going to do: no gluten, 30% fat, 40% carbs, and 30% protein. I’m working out everyday, which is fine because I like to.
So if you see me out and about looking all buff in a couple months be sure to high-five me. If you see not looking all buff…I probably have snacks if you want one.
